20 February 2007, Moscow. IRU stages 5th International Conference on the Development of Transit and Logistics along the Great Silk Road and signs MoU with EurAsEC Addressing the 5th IRU International Conference in Moscow, IRU Secretary General, Martin Marmy, emphasised the need for the private and public sectors to interconnect all countries, economies and businesses along the reopened Silk Road to ensure prosperity and peace. On this occasion, the IRU also signed a Memorandum of Understanding the Euro-Asian Economic Community (EurAsEC) represented by its Secretary General, Grigory Rapota, to facilitate public-private partnership with a view to implementing key UNECE multilateral facilitation instruments to reduce barriers in road transport in EurAsEC member states.
